Everything that is new or uncommon raises a pleasure in the imagination, because it fills the soul with an agreeable surprise, gratifies its curiosity, and gives it an idea of which it was not before possessed. Joseph Addison

The Devil is a Loser

On Sunday we had Jerry Savelle at church in the 11am service. He was HILARIOUS! That man could be a one man comedy show. The message was all about 'Failure is not in your Future, so Failure is no longer acceptable'. Uhm... ouch.

Basically he said that if you cannot handle all that life and the devil throw at you, you need to question if you are living under the blood of Jesus.

John 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you will indeed be free.

Jesus paid a price so that you may be free, but the choice to walk in that freedom or remain in bondage is yours. If you do not believe that you are free you will not walk in victory.

John 16:33 I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world. (emphasis added)

So Jesus stated that we will have trials and sorrows. In fact, in the Amplified bible it says:
I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration...
I don't know about you, but I don't very much like the sound of that. Luckily Jesus doesn't stop there, he continues to say:
but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]

He has deprived it of its power to harm us. So even when the tough times come, we know that it's not over yet. We are more than conquerors in Christ, but how can you be more than a conqueror if you have nothing to conquer?

Anyway, so getting back to the thing that we need to conquer. The bible tells us in Ephesians 6 that 'our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.' Basically we are fighting the devil and all his minions. The devil is known as the prince of this world, so while we are in the world we will have to face him.

So one of the ways that the devil will try to keep you down is by bringing up your past (this is again referringto Sunday's message). He will try and tell you that you are a failure. That you are not good enough and that you cannot overcome the things in your life, because maybe you didn't have the greatest past. Here's Jerry's tip on how to get over that: When the devil brings up your past, turn around and bring up HIS. When he tells you what a failure you are, remind of what a failure he is. Here we have someone who was once the angel of worship, one who was always in the presence of God and who now is so jealous of you for being in that presence that he will do anything to get you out of it. You can sit him down and tell him all about what a loser he is. What a failure he is. Where he came from and what he's done. And then, to top it all off, remind him that his future isn't looking too bright either- heading for a great lake of fire is not exactly something I'd be looking forward to.

All in all I'd say that we have reason to celebrate and worship and take joy in the Lord, for we know that no weapon formed against us shall prosper, we know that our eternal salvation has been secured and that we are FREE INDEED.

So devil, that's it for you- you're a failure, a disgrace and a loser, and you can SUCK EGGS!
